'Sky Captain' leads box office amid weak turnout at theaters
Retro ruled at the weekend box office. "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" debuted at number one with an estimated 16-point-two million dollars. The film starring Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie cast its live actors against digitally animated giant robots on a backdrop of 1930s New York. Bernie Mac's baseball comedy "Mr. 3000," premiered in second place with a bit over nine million dollars, followed in third by last weekend's number one -- "Resident Evil: Apocalypse." The romantic comedy "Wimbledon," debuted in fourth. "Cellular" grabbed the fifth spot.
