NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

A teen is behind bars after North Charleston police say he got on a moped and led them on a 20 mph chase.

Police charged 18-year-old Ethan Lamont Jenkins with failure to stop for blue lights and siren, and giving false information to police.

On Wednesday afternoon, North Charleston police officers responded to the area of Dorchester Road and Olivia Drive for a vehicle pursuit. Authorities say when they arrived in the area, they were told that the driver of the moped took off on foot towards Andrews Street after ditching a moped.

Police say they spotted a man, who matched the description of the suspect, running on foot next to another man, later identified as Jenkins, on another moped. A police report states the man attempted to get on Jenkins' moped, but fled after seeing police.

Authorities say Jenkins continued to traveling on his moped through a gas station's parking lot.

According to police, Jenkins looked back at an officer and continued to travel through the parking lot of a shopping center.

A police report states Jenkins continued on Dorchester Road with speeds of up to 20 mph, and failed to stop for a red light. At one point during the pursuit, Jenkins turned onto Frontage Road, ditched the moped and took off towards the Title Max on 5381 Dorchester Road where he was arrested.

Investigators say when officers asked the suspect what his name was, he replied,"Jermaine Taylor."

According to authorities, when the suspect was finger printed at the Al Cannon Detention Center, the finger prints identified the suspect as Jenkins who was wanted in North Charleston on a bench warrant for disorderly conduct.
