U Square @ the Loop officially open for business

CLIFTON HEIGHTS, OH (FOX19) -

A new development near the University of Cincinnati celebrated its grand opening on Thursday.

Officials cut the ceremonial ribbon for the $78 million U Square @ the Loop, now home to a handful of bars, restaurants, retail, office space, apartments, a community green and two structured parking garages with more than 700 spaces.

"When perspective parents come through, when they see something like this, the development and all the restaurants, the new centers and offices and classrooms that we have actually on this property, it's very, very impressive. So, I'm thrilled. I couldn't be more thrilled about what's happening here," said UC President Santa Ono.

Developers broke ground on the four-acre project in January 2012.

U Square is the largest project besides The Banks to break ground in Cincinnati since the recession. Developers say space has also been reserved for a future hotel.
