MIAMI (CBS5) -
Police in Miami-Dade, FL, caught and arrested an Arizona fugitive wanted for sexual assault involving two minors in 2009 in Yavapai County.
U.S. Marshals arrested Robert Van Gundy on Wednesday after getting a tip he was hiding out on a boat in Dinner Key Marina in Miami, a U.S. Marshals Service spokesman said.
A warrant for his arrest was issued by Yavapai County Superior Court on Aug. 14 after he failed to appear in court on charges of luring a minor for sexual exploitation and sexual conduct with a minor. Bail was set at $500,000.
They also arrested his wife, Arielle Van Gundy, after she reached for a handgun in a dog purse. She was charged with having a concealed weapon in a dog purse without a permit for Florida, the spokesman said.
The spokesman said the Van Gundys were living on the boat and were believed to be ready to leave the country when they were arrested.
Robert Van Gundy is accused of nearly 24 counts of sexually abusing two underage boys.
He is known to be anti-government and had told family members he would not be taken alive, according to Marshals Service spokesman Barry Golden.
