PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A man suspected of shooting and killing his girlfriend's former boyfriend was in jail Friday.

Daniel Patrick Aumiller, 38, is suspected of shooting 48-year-old Alan Lewis Pierce in the neck about 12:15 p.m. Thursday, said Phoenix police Sgt. Tommy Thompson.

Pierce had gone to Aumiller's home near Campbell and 58th avenues in the northwest Valley to talk with his ex-girlfriend when Aumiller shot him, Thompson said.

A witness who went with Pierce to Aumiller's house said she saw a silhouette of a man behind the security door and heard the man "giggling."

Aumiller fled but officers later spotted him on a BMX bicycle at 1920 West Camelback Rd. and arrested him about 7:30 p.m.

John F. Long and Mark Atkinson elementary schools as well as Mission High School were all on lockdown until about 3 p.m.

Pierce was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, but later died.

Aumiller faces a possible first-degree murder charge, Thompson said. According to the police report, Aumiller has a lengthy criminal history.

During an interview with police, the victim's ex-girlfriend said the two men had been friends and that she cheated on Pierce with Aumiller.
