Rubber Duck Regatta winners pick up their prizes

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A Burlington woman had one lucky duck. Nearly 150,000 ducks swam in the river on Sunday, September 1, but it was Velma Slayback's rubber duck that was the first prize winner of the 2013 Rubber Duck Regatta for the Freestore Foodbank in Cincinnati.

Slayback won a 2013 Honda Civic sedan.

Other winners are listed below:

  • $5,200 in groceries from Kroger ($100 per week for a year): Jay Sulee of Anderson Twp.
  • $500 cash from KEMBA Credit Union: Martha Stricker of St. Bernard
  • $500 cash from KEMBA Credit Union: Kimberlee Nickolas of Cincinnati
  • $500 cash from KEMBA Credit Union: Mary Zins of Spring Grove Village
  • $500 cash from KEMBA Credit Union: Sal Wertheim of Blue Ash
  • $500 cash from KEMBA Credit Union: Carolyn Griffin of Madeira

All told, resident duck purchases helped raise nearly 875,000 for the foodbank.

In its 19th year, this was the largest Rubber Duck Regatta event.

Since its inception in 1995, the Rubber Duck Regatta has raised approximately $7.7 million to help fight hunger in the Tri-State.
