Local businessman falls to death on vacation in Italy

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

A Kentucky businessman died at foreign hotel during a vacation with friends in southern Italy on Sunday.

What appeared to be a harmless night out on the town with friends turned fatal after police say 37-year-old Kenneth Kocan of Ft. Mitchell fell off the railing of stairs at Belair, a hotel located in Sorrento, Italy.

Initial reports say that Kocan was in Italy with his life and business partner and two friends. Officials say that Kocan may have been intoxicated at the time of his death when he fell at least four meters to the entrance of the hotel, hit his head upon impact and died from his injuries.

Kocan was a co-business owner of Kocanut Joe's Frozen Yogurt, a community-based business in Ft. Mitchell. He started the business with Joe Zembrodt in 2012 and merged their two names to create the company's name.

Officials in Sorrento will conduct an official autopsy of Kocan in the next few days.
