Man accused of hurting family dog during argument

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A Lincoln Heights man was in court Monday morning accused of picking up the family dog and unnecessarily slamming her onto the ground.

Lee Peterson, 39, was arrested Saturday in the 1300 block of Byrd Street after police say he allegedly picked up the family's mixed-breed pitbull by the neck and slammed her on the ground during an argument. Officers say it happened in front of some children and the dog cried out in pain.

Peterson's wife called authorities, and according to court documents, "feared he would turn on her after slamming the dog." Police reported Peterson was intoxicated at the time of the offense.

Officers say the dog was checked by the SPCA, who advised she be further checked by a vet for possible injuries.

Peterson has been charged with animal cruelty and domestic violence. His bond was set at $60,000.
