St. Vincent De Paul Cincinnati running low on supplies - Cincinnati News, Weather, Sports from FOX19 NOW-WXIX

Shelves are bare at local food pantries

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Local food pantries are in dire need of donations after experiencing a dramatic increase in need.

St. Vincent De Paul Cincinnati has nine neighborhood-based food pantries throughout Cincinnati, including their Choice Food Pantry in the West End. Over the past couple of months, representatives from St. Vincent de Paul say there has been a dramatic increase in need.

Request for help at the pantry are up 20 percent from last year. St. Vincent de Paul says they are running out of food to give to hungry families. The pantry says they are seeing many new faces walk through the door. Individuals who have been self-sufficient in the past are now finding they can no longer make ends meet.

The increased need is being felt not only in the urban core, but in the suburbs too. Food pantries in Mt. Airy, Price Hill and Mt. Washington are also experiencing an increased need. The pantry says that the Mt. Washington location is low on food and has almost nothing left to re-stock their shelves.
