Man attacked by canine after fleeing auto theft

COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -

A man was bitten by a dog after allegedly stealing from a vehicle on Tuesday, according to police.

Daniel Dickerson, 35, was arrested after police say that he allegedly broke into a vehicle and attempted to steal from several others.

Officers from the Colerain Township Police Department say that a woman observed Dickerson removing items from her vehicle on the 9600 block of Zoellner Road on Tuesday, September 3.

According to the caller, Dickerson fled through several backyards after being confronted. When officers arrived to the scene, they found that other vehicles were tampered with.

A search team was assembled with the assistance of the Springfield Township Police Department and its canine. The canine located and bit the Dickerson, who was hiding in landscaping.

Dickerson received minor injuries was not required to go to the hospital. The majority of the items taken from the victim were recovered and police are asking other individuals in the neighborhood who may be victims to contact the Colerain Police Department at 513-321-COPS.

Dickerson is currently in custody at the Justice Center.
