STARKVILLE, MS - In the first home game of the 2013 season, the Mississippi State Bulldogs handled the Alcorn State Braves 51-7, moving to 1-1 on the year.

The Bulldogs had seven new starters in the game, including sophomore quarterback Dak Prescott, who played the entire first two quarters and led his team to a 37-0 halftime lead before freshman Damian Williams finished out the game.

Freshmen were a big portion of the contest, as true freshmen led MSU in both rushing and receiving, with Ashton Shumpert (98 yards and two touchdowns) making his debut in the backfield. Wide receiver Fred Ross had three catches for 46 yards.

"The losses always look worse than they are, and often the wins look better than they are," Mullen said. "There are certainly some things we need to coach and improve on from this game."
