Scam Alert: Letter seeks repayment of funds from KY retirees

FRANKFORT, KY (FOX19) -

Authorities are warning Kentucky retirees of a scam circulating around the state seeking repayment of retirement funds.

According to Kentucky Auditor Adam Edelen, a fraudulent letter was sent out to retirees across the Commonwealth, claiming the auditor's office discovered that some 26,000 people were overpaid and that a field agent would be coming to collect the repayment of those overpaid funds.

Edelen says this letter is a scam. It contains a forged signature of a former auditor, and his office has had no findings to support these claims.

Law enforcement has been notified of the scam, in addition to the Kentucky Retirement Systems and Kentucky Teachers Retirement Systems.

It was unclear how many retirees have received the letter. Visit the Kentucky Auditor's website to report a scam and find additional information: http://auditor.ky.gov/.
