Husband of slain Brown Co. mother no longer a person of interest

BROWN COUNTY, OH (FOX19) - The husband of a slain Brown County mother is no longer considered a person of interest in the investigation, according to detectives in the case.

Deputies were called to investigate a vehicle off the road in a wooded area between S.R. 125 and Laycock Road on US Rt. 68. It was reported August 28 around 7:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers found 22-year-old Brittany Stykes and her 14-month-old daughter, Aubree, suffering from gunshot wounds. Brittany Stykes was pronounced dead at the scene. She was 17 weeks pregnant at the time.

Aubree Stykes was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment. Family members have said she is talking and improving daily.

According to the Brown County Sheriff's Office, Daryl Shane Stykes, Brittany's husband, and another person were previously considered persons of interest in the case.

Authorities say both have alibis and were interviewed by deputies, as well as a person trained to do scientific interviews. Detectives ultimately determined both individuals had no involvement in Stykes' death.

Last Friday, Stykes' husband, who went by "Shane" called in to The Chris Kidd Show on WEBN to discuss the case. He began the conversation by saying, "I just want you to know my wife and I are big fans of the show, always listen, and I'm calling for your help."

The investigation is continuing, and additional persons of interest are being interviewed by Brown County detectives.
