CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A street name was selected to tie a new section of Kennedy Avenue into I-71 South and Norwood Avenue as a part of Cincinnati's Kennedy Connector Project.
"Mill Ridge," ranked as the winner of four other names that were accessible through an online voting process, taking the majority of the votes by 30 percent. HB Stowe came in second place (24.9 percent) followed by the names Kennison (21.8 percent), Kennector (14.2 percent) and Wm. Brown (8.2 percent).
Mill Ridge was submitted by Brian Powers, Pleasant Ridge resident and Reference Librarian in the Genealogy and Local History Department at the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County.
"Mill gives the name a sense of history while 'Ridge' gives it a sense of location," said Powers.
Mill Ridge commemorates the former Cincinnati Milacron facilities that existed at the road site and Madison Road. Workers often called the factory "The Mill" as a nickname.
Jared McFaddin, Construction Engineer for the Kennedy Connector Project says that the process has been a great way to engage the public.
"We have been able to build awareness about the project and have some fun at the same time," said McFadden. "Now, we just need to order the street signs."
The City will add a road designation and place signs for the new street in the next few weeks.
