GRANT COUNTY, KY (FOX19) - A Grant County band director is accused of having sexual relations with a former student after rumors circulated earlier this week.
Grant County High School Band Director Kenneth "David" Owens, 34, is in jail after rumors of an inappropriate relationship with a former student in 2011 reached the administration of the Grant County School District on Wednesday, September 11.
The sheriff's office tells FOX19 that the alleged victim is a female former student who was 16-years-old at the time of the relationship.
A statement released by Superintendent Ron Livingood reveals that Owens resigned from his position in lieu of being terminated.
According to an article on the Grant County High School website, Grant joined the band as a director in 2010 after being the Director of Bands at Beechwood High School in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky. He and his wife JoAnn Owens, are both band directors and have an extensive history of teaching accolades.
Superintendent Livingood says that the administration conducted an investigation and filed a report with the Fort Thomas Police and Campbell County Commonwealth Attorney.
Owens was arrested on Thursday, September 12 on two counts of first degree sexual abuse. His bond is set at $10,000 cash.
