7 people still hospitalized after Greyhound bus crash

Cincinnati Greyhound bus overturns, injuring 34

MONROE, OH (FOX19) - Seven people are still hospitalized after a Greyhound bus headed from Cincinnati to Detroit flipped early Saturday morning.

A little after 4:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, both the Butler County and Warren County Communication Centers were notified of a bus accident northbound on I-75 at mile marker 26, between SR129 and SR63 in Monroe, Ohio.

Fifty two people were on-board when the bus drove off the right side of I-75 in Liberty Township, crashing into a tree and fence before coming to rest on its side.

Thirty-five patients were transported to local hospitals; twenty-eight via ground and six via air.

Seven are still in the hospital as of Monday afternoon.

Officials at the crash scene told FOX19 that no other cars were involved.

There were reports that the driver, Dwayne Garrett, fell asleep but investigators say he was fully rested.

I-75 was shutdown from SR129 to SR63 for a period of time after the crash. Ohio State Highway Patrol and Ohio Department of Transportation reopened several lanes within a couple of hours following the accident.

A new bus arrived to transport those not injured to their destination.

Investigators also say the bus recently passed an inspection.
