Record gas prices taking toll on local citizens

Gas prices stay above $3 a gallon for 1,000 straight days Gas prices stay above $3 a gallon for 1,000 straight days

It's the new normal, gas prices up and down, and when they're down it's still too high for many.

"We've been doing it for so long that it just seems to be normal. That much, that expensive.  There's really nothing we can do about it. They set the price that's what it is or we don't go to work," explains Giy Rampini.

The price at the pump has stayed above $3 a gallon nation wide for at least one thousand days straight.  It is the longest stretch on record.

Guy Rampini owns a trucking company and says he's been feeling it for a while.

"We do diesel at four dollars a gallon to the tune of about two thousand dollars a week," says Rampini.

Guy's brother- in- law Ron just paid $73 for 22 and a half gallons of gas for his truck. He tells us he needs it for work,  but, in order to pay for his fuel he says he's forced to pull out the plastic.

"I put my gas on a credit card. One credit card. I pay five hundred dollars a month and I owe 9-thousand dollars on my credit card from the gasoline that I use this year," says Ron Pyrtko.

In debt to get around town. It's the way it has to be Ron says.

"It's pretty numbing," says Rampini.
