The Cleveland Kennel is once again at capacity, which means that several dogs are at risk for being euthanized.

For pet owners that have lost animals it is important to remember that pets are euthanized twice a week.

The kennel allows three to ten days to retrieve lost pets.

The Cleveland Animal Control (CAC) also known as the City of Cleveland Kennel is located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm. However, you are not able to meet a dog outside of its cage unless you have scheduled a meet and greet with a trained volunteer ahead of time. However, you are not able to meet a dog outside of its cage unless you have scheduled a meet and greet with a trained volunteer at least 48 hours.

The facility has 150 dog cages, most of which hold pit bulls or pit bull mixes, which is the breed of choice.

The Cleveland kennel is a completely different entity from the Cleveland Animal Protective League (the APL) or the Cuyahoga County  Animal Shelter (the county).

Highly adoptable dogs are transferred to either the Cleveland APL located at 1729 Wiley Avenue in Cleveland or the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter located at 9500 Sweet Valley Drive in Valley View for adoption.

The approved rescue partners of the Cleveland Kennel do not pay a pull fee for unaltered dogs and the facility is often able to raise $50-100 in sponsorship.  Dogs receive their DHPP and Bordetella vaccinations, are de-wormed, and are micro-chipped before being released. The kennel can assist with transportation to anywhere in the country.  To request an application to be approved to pull or to inquire about dogs in urgent status, send an email to  ClevelandACVolunteer@gmail.com.

Many of the dogs on the kennel's urgent list are scheduled to be put down next Tuesday, meaning owners who have lost their dogs should go to the kennel before Tuesday's deadline.
