Kentucky race track honors slain officer

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A race track honors a slain officer who would have turned 34-years-old on Sunday in a memorial race.

The memory of Officer Jason Ellis was commemorated in the Jason Ellis Memorial Race on Sunday, September 22 by Churchill Downs.

Officials of the company say that they wanted to show their support for Ellis and his family because of their sacrifices for the community.

The Ellis family was invited to sit in two suites provided by Churchill Downs to watch the race. Amy Ellis, Ellis' wife, and two sons, Parker and Hunter, were presented with a check for $1,000.

Ellis was ambushed by a shotgun on Bluegrass Parkway near Bloomfield in May and the case is still unsolved.
