One of the first women to enroll at the US Military Academy in West Point, New York, has reached the rank of general. Rebecca Halstead is the first female graduate of any US military academy to achieve the milestone. Brigadier General Halstead graduated from West Point in 1981 and now commands the Third Corps Support Command based in Wiesbaden, Germany. The first woman to reach the rank of general in the US Armed Forces was Elizabeth Hoisington in 1970. She was also in the Army.
