OMAHA, TX (KLTV) - Sirens echoed throughout one East Texas town Wednesday evening but it was no police chase.

Daingerfield Police K9 Officer Amanda Solis is now back at her home in Omaha after receiving treatment for leukemia at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. Cars from five different local police forces turned out to provide Solis with an escort through town and to her house. The police escort was led by Solis' sister Susan Laake, who is herself a sergeant at the Lone Star Police Department.

Naples Police Department Chief Jim Grisham says police vehicles from the Morris County Sheriff's Department, Lone Star Police Department, Daingerfield Police Department, Omaha Police Department and Naples Police Department were waiting for Solis at the edge of town so she could make her grand entrance.

Friends and family have rallied around Solis ever since she was diagnosed with two forms of Leukemia. Her support group, Team Amanda, has organized benefit dinners and silent auctions to raise money for expenses. Over ten law enforcement officers have even auctioned off the rights to their hair, allowing their heads to be shaved in order to show support.

Chief Grisham says that Solis is now in remission and will get to enjoy her time at home before heading back to Baylor in 30 days.

"She will be heading back for a bone marrow transplant and hopefully that will knock it out and she will be done," says Grisham.

A benefit for Solis will be held in Naples on October 12. You can like Team Amanda's Facebook page for the latest updates and information on her fight with leukemia.
