Kenton County building closed for several days after fire

COVINGTON, KENTUCKY (FOX19) - The Kenton County Building will be temporarily shut down after an electrical malfunction started in the mechanical room on Sunday.

A building administrator released a report stating that a fire started in the mechanical room of the Kenton County Administration building located at 303 Court Street in Covington on Sunday afternoon.

The main electrical wiring and other systems were affected as a result. The main telephone system that operates the Covington and Independence buildings are out of order; however, the e-mail system is unaffected.

An estimate of damages has not yet been determined.

The Kenton County Administration Building houses offices such as the County Clerk, County Sheriff, County Attorney, and PVA.

All public business will be conducted at the Independence Courthouse located at 5724 Madison Pike, in Independence, Kentucky.

Employees of the building are not to report to the building on Monday, September 30, unless they are called in by their direct supervisor.

The building is expected to be out of commission for no more than a few days.
