Kerry increases ads ahead of debates

The Kerry campaign is stepping up its advertising ahead of the Thursday's presidential debate. Voters in 14 states will be promised "a new direction" from the Kerry-Edwards ticket when it comes to Iraq.

This new Democratic advertising round also tries to paint President Bush as out of touch with the reality of soldier casualties, kidnappings and beheadings. One political scholar says Kerry is aiming for a portrait of a president who can't see the truth. Martin Kaplan -- at the University of Southern California -- says that could be an effective strategy, if the Kerry campaign sticks with it.

While Kerry is spending more in some places, the Democratic ticket is pulling its advertising from Missouri. That could suggest the Democrats are all but conceding the state to Bush-Cheney.
