Appeals court considers Ohio corpse sex abuse case

CINCINNATI (AP) - A federal appeals panel in Cincinnati has heard arguments over a lawsuit filed by the families of three murder victims whose corpses were sexually abused by a morgue attendant.

Attorneys for the families suing Hamilton County argue the abuse amounted to constitutional rights violations and want to take the case before a jury.

Attorneys for coroner officials and the county argue they couldn't have foreseen that the attendant would commit such abuse and aren't liable.

The arguments came before a three-judge panel of the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in downtown Cincinnati on Tuesday. The court could issue a ruling at any time.

Morgue attendant Kenneth Douglas said he was high on cocaine and drunk when he abused the women. He served six years in prison after pleading guilty.
