Salvation Army of Southern Indiana to seek families needing Christmas assistance

NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) - The Salvation Army of Southern Indiana will accept applications for Christmas assistance beginning November 11.

Families needing help for the holidays in the form of food, clothing or toys can apply at one of two locations between Monday, November 11 and Friday, November 22.

Clark, Floyd, Crawford, Scott and Washington County residents ONLY:
Salvation Army
2300 Green Valley Road
New Albany, IN (use the side door)
Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 9 to 1 p.m.
Thursdays ONLY: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Harrison County residents ONLY:
Community of Hope Church of the Nazarene
1500 Corydon Ramsey Road
Corydon, IN
Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 9 to 11:45 a.m.
Thursdays ONLY: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Applicants MUST bring the following:

  • Proof of income: TANF, food stamps, disability, employment, unemployment, child support, etc.
  • Proof of rent: Copy of lease with all family members listed or last rent receipt if no lease (The Salvation Army will no longer accept handwritten papers in place of a lease.)
  • Proof of address: Recent utility bill
  • Identification for everyone in the household: Indiana IDs for adults, social security cards for everyone
  • Proof of date of birth for all children: Birth certificates or Medicaid card, shot records or school records showing date of birth (If you have custody of a child, you must present court papers as proof.)
  • Sizes for children through age 16

The public can begin selecting Angels to adopt through the Salvation Army of Southern Indiana's Angel Tree program on Saturday, November 23 at Greentree Mall.
