INDEPENDENCE, KY (FOX19) - Five people were sent to the hospital after a head-on crash near Simon Kenton High School early Wednesday.
It happened just before 6 a.m. on Madison Pike involving a car and a truck.
Police believe the car, a gray Ford Taurus, driven by Anthony Wagner, crossed the center line and hit the truck, driven by Jerry Howell, head-on.
Wagner and his passengers, Nick Cecil, Rashawn Jones and Gary Chestnut, were all taken to UC Medical Center.
The driver of the truck, Howell, was taken to St. Elizabeth's South; his injuries are said to be minor.
Officials tell FOX19 that the investigation is ongoing at this time and the evidence has been turned over to the commonwealth attorney.
Wagner's family issued this statement:
"We wish to thank all who are concerned for our son, Anthony Wagner Jr. Your support means a lot to us. This is a difficult time for us and we ask the media to please respect our privacy and that of those involved in the accident. We ask friends to please refrain from sharing any information about our son on social media. Any medical updates should come directly from us. What we need most right now are prayers. Thank you for understanding."
Madison Pike was completely shut down in the area as crews worked to reconstruct the accident.
