OLD BROOKLYN, OH (WOIO) -

A Cleveland city worker was killed in a riding lawn mower accident at Archmere Park at West 45th Street and Archmere in Old Brooklyn.

It happened around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

The employee was operating a large riding mower when he went over an embankment and into a creek. The mower landed on top of him.

Other city crew members called 911 and moved the lawn mower.

"When they arrived on scene he was partially under the mower and they lifted the mower off of him and we came on scene about a minute afterward and put him on a backboard and started working him," said Cleveland Fire Lt. Larry Gray.

The question now is how did this happen? Did he just get too close to the embankment and slip or did he suffer some trauma that led to the rollover?

The investigation still needs to play out, but the victim and the mower tumbled at least eight feet into the Rocky Creek bed.

"It's a tough day anytime you lose an employee, a friend, a brother or a family member and it's a tough day when somebody comes to work and they don't go home  -- so it's a tough day," Michael Cox, Cleveland Director of Public Works said.

No word on the city worker's identity at this time.
