TIFFIN, OH (Toledo News Now) -
The Tiffin Police Department is searching for the person they believe robbed a local gas station.
The police posted to their Facebook page that at 1:10 a.m. Wednesday, they received a call that the Hi-Miler gas station at 247 South Sandusky Street had been robbed.
Surveillance video shows the suspect entered the store holding a weapon and some kind of squirt bottle. The store clerk attempted to fight him off by throwing things at him, but the suspect squirted the clerk in the face with an unknown liquid, which caused his skin to burn. The suspect then fled the scene with money from the cash register.
Police said on Facebook that the suspect was holding what appeared to be a gun wrapped in a sock.
The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing between 160 and 180 pounds, and wearing all black clothing with gloves and a mask.
The police released the surveillance video, hoping someone will recognize the suspect or his clothing.
Customers are shocked a crime like this happened in their town.
"I've heard of crime around, but like I said, I wouldn't expect it on a main road here," said James Rainey.
Others question security measures.
"Maybe we need more security cameras around here," said Ken Huffman, who visits the gas station daily.
After seeing the video, Huffman was happy his friend the clerk was unharmed.
"I was proud of him, really proud of him. I just wish that the crate that he threw was just a little bit higher so that he could have knocked him down or something," said Huffman.
Anyone with information should contact the Tiffin Police Department at 419-447-2323.
