Springfield school committee candidates meet with residents

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Candidates vying for a seat on the 2013 Springfield school committee met with residents Wednesday night.

An open forum hosted by Stand for Children Massachusetts was held at the Rebecca Johnson Middle School.

Organizers said they held the forum so residents can learn about the positions and get an idea of who the candidates are before voting.

"It's important for our parents, teachers and community members to know that they're going to be chosen the right people to make those decisions," said Stand for Massachusetts organizer Luz Lopez.

Springfield residents will vote for committee members on Nov. 5.
