Superintendent warns parents, students about so-called "Amelia Homecoming Bash"

A local superintendent is warning parents and students about the so-called "Amelia Homecoming Bash."

Dr. BJ Brewer is worried the same people behind a raunchy prom night party, that led to child porn charges, may be pushing this homecoming event for next Friday.

"I feel like it is our responsibility to inform our parents when we become aware of a potential situation," said superintendent Dr. BJ Brewer.

She concerned about a racy flier promoting the so-called "Amelia Homecoming Bash."

"Rather than waiting after the fact," said Dr. Brewer. "I wanted to tell everyone this is not a school activity."

The concern comes after cell phone video of a party thrown on the same night of the Amelia County prom went viral. The video shows very explicit dancing and then, what appears to be a sexual assault on an underage girl. Charges were filed against two men.

"I can't tell you with certainty that is the same people," said Dr. Brewer. "But I can tell you I'm not willing to take a chance."

School officials fear the flier may cause confusion. They also are not happy it uses the football team's logo.

"We're certainly having our attorneys look into it and the school board as a whole will decide if we proceed with any action against them," said school board chairwoman Ann Salster. "Because it does make it look legitimate and like a school event."

The school system has even taken to Facebook to warn parents and students about the event.

School officials note the game is Friday, October 18th. They say they would never have a dance on the same night as the game. The official dance is Saturday, October 19th.
