(FOX19) -

Remember Obie?

A full-grown standard dachshund weighs an average of 16 pounds. Obie once topped the scales at 77 pounds.

After a strict diet, exercise and lots of love, this hot dog is now 52 pounds lighter.

According to the Obie Dog Journey Facebook page, the pup previously lived with an elderly couple who "were simply loving him with food" with little to no exercise.

A volunteer picked him up in Washington State and delivered him to Nora Vanatta of Portland, Oregon, who has since taken on the task of getting him back in shape.

The handsome pup has shed the pounds since August 2012 thanks to a prescription diet. He even had to have surgery to remove excess skin from the extreme weight loss.

Next month, Obie will go on a U.S. tour to help promote obesity prevention.
