WESTWOOD, OH (FOX19) - The City of Cincinnati held an official groundbreaking Monday for its new District 3 Headquarters in Westwood.
A ceremony was held at the new address, 2300 Ferguson Road, beginning at 2 p.m.
The new building will be adjacent to Western Hills High School and double in size to approximately 39,000 square feet, compared to the current facility. It includes a public plaza, and city officials say there are future plans to make a neighborhood bike trail in the area.
"The current facility in Warsaw was built in 1907 and has allowed us to serve the Westside neighborhoods with pride," explains District 3 Captain, Russell Neville. "We're standing here today because it's a prime spot and home to the most densely populated area that our district serves."
The project is a $16 million investment for Cincinnati's west side. The new District 3 Headquarters is expected to be completed by spring of 2015.
The district itself serves more than 95,000 residents and encompasses roughly 20 square miles.
Cincinnati City Council approved funding for the new station as a capital project in its 2014 budget in an effort to better various communities throughout the city.
"That's what this is all about, keeping the community safe and making sure we do all that we can to invest in neighborhoods so that we can continue to prosper," said Mayor Mark Mallory.
The current District 3 Headquarters was built in 1930, located at 3201 Warsaw Avenue.
