Four Arizonans are in custody accused of conspiring to defraud the government out of thousands of dollars.

The IRS investigators said Kristi Marie Egger, Michael Wayne Egger, Joseph Andrew Murray and Samuel George Hamilton all conspired to file federal income tax returns that had false refund claims.

IRS investigators said the scheme went on for two years beginning on Jan. 1, 2010.

Authorities said Kristi Egger filed the returns with information provided to her by Murray, and Michael Egger prepared his taxes with information from Hamilton. Murray and Hamilton were both in Arizona prisons when the tax returns were filed in their names.

The Eggers were arrested on Sept. 5 in Mesa.

Murray was already in custody of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office and Hamilton was in custody of the Arizona Department of Corrections in Florence.

All four were charged with conspiracy to defraud the government and false claims for refund.
