PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A former fourth-grade teacher whose personal computer contained numerous pornographic images of children was sentenced to 10 years in prison Friday for sexual exploitation of a minor.

Judge Roland Steinle also sentenced Thomas Warner, 55, to lifetime probation for two counts of attempted sexual exploitation of a minor.

Warner was teaching at North Ranch Elementary School in the Paradise Valley School District when police, acting on a tip from a computer repair company, found the images and other items of child pornography at Warner's house in February of 2012.

He pleaded guilty to the charges as part of a plea agreement in May.

Detectives from the Arizona Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force said they found numerous items of child pornography at his residence, including pictures and videos of young boys ages 8 to 12 years old engaged in various sex acts.

Police said Warner told them he downloaded the images from the internet and that he is sexually attracted to young boys in that age group.

Warner also admitted that he used his position as a teacher to compensate for the guilt he felt about viewing the images, according to a court document.

Warner told police he kept the pictures on his laptop to hide them from his wife, also an elementary school teacher, according to the document.

According to the school, in his 11 years with PVSD, he had a clean record with no disciplinary action.

The school district put Warner on paid administrative leave and said he lost his DPS card and could not teach anywhere without it.

Warner also mentored students in an after-school program.
