Man dies following September shooting, girlfriend charged with murder

OVER THE RHINE, OH (FOX19) - A woman's felonious assault charge has been upgraded to murder after her 84-year-old boyfriend died in the hospital on Thursday following an Over-the-Rhine shooting in September.

Officers say that at 84-year-old James Arrington was shot in chest on September 29. The incident happened in the 100 block of East McMicken Avenue. Arrington survived the assault and was transported to University Hospital Medical Center.

Arrington's girlfriend, 53-year-old Lois Welcher, was arrested and charged with felonious assault.

On Thursday, police say that Arrington died as a result to the shooting.

Homicide investigators charged Welcher with murder on Friday. Welcher is currently being held in the Hamilton County Justice Center.
