Plane makes emergency landing in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, OH (FOX19) - A private plane had to make an emergency landing Wednesday in Clinton County after an engine failure.

Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched to the 1100 block of Crouse Road, near State Route 134, just before 12 p.m.

Authorities say 57-year-old Douglas Alexander was flying his 1967 Beechcraft Bonaza from Oxford, Mississippi to Columbus, Ohio when one of the cylinders in the engine failed, causing a loss of power.

Alexander made radio contact with Port Columbus Airport and said he was experiencing engine trouble and would be making a forced/emergency landing. He landed in a plowed field just south of Wilmington, Ohio.

He was not injured. In addition, there was no damage to plane or surrounding area.

The Federal Aviation Administration was contacted and sent an inspector to the scene. The FAA will be conducting an investigation with the assistance of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
