Snowplows to hit CVG runways on Thursday

HEBRON, KY (FOX19) - It's only October, but the snowplows are coming out at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport.

CVG's Snow Operations Team will have a run-through on the runways in preparation for winter snow. The Snow Team will conduct one of its many dry-runs on the airfield Thursday morning.

"Safety and security of our employees and our passengers is a top priority at CVG," said Candace McGraw, chief executive officer at CVG. "With four runways, we strive to keep our airport running on time in the event of a snow emergency."

Average snow fall for the winter at CVG is 24 inches per year including 27 snow days. Sweeping one runway is equivalent to clearing 12 interstate lanes for approximately two miles.
