The Arkansas State University women's cross country team occupies 10th place in the current United States Track and Field& Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) South Central Region Rankings, which were released Monday (Oct. 21).

The Red Wolves, under coaches Jim Patchell and Kyle Chandler, moved down two slots into 10th place in the 15-team regional poll.  Arkansas is listed first followed by Texas A&M and Texas.  Joining Arkansas State as Sun Belt Conference (SBC) representatives are UT Arlington (14th place) and Texas State (15th place).  A-State achieved its highest regional ranking ever in the program's history two weeks ago (Oct. 7) as the Red Wolves were listed eighth.

This fall, Arkansas State has compiled five top-five team finishes which includes a pair of first-place performances at the Saint Louis Big River Forest Park Festival (Sept. 13) and the Rhodes College Invitational (Sept. 28).

The 14-member 2013 A-State squad has been led by juniors Kristina Aubert, Rexi Parcells, Tilda Helgesson, Heather Newberry, and Chelsey Roberson along with sophomore Abbey Dixon.  Aubert is a three-time (9/4, 10/2 & 10/9) Sun Belt Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week selection this season.

The USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning team strength with current-season results indetermining predicted team finishes at the NCAA Regional Championships.
A-State, which was listed 10th in the USTFCCCA's 2013 Preseason South Central Region Rankings, moved out of the rankings as the 2013 season started before returning in the poll's third installment (Sept. 30) at the 12th-place position.

The Red Wolves will have this week off in preparation for the 2013 Sun Belt Conference Cross Country Championships, which will be held Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Trojan Oaks course in Troy, Ala.  The SBC Championships, which are being hosted by Troy University, will get underway at 10 a.m. (CT) with the women's 5K race followed by the men's 8K run at 11 a.m. (CT).
