CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A portion of the Ohio River Trail near The Banks is now open to walkers and bikers.
The newly finished, 600-foot section was made possible by $1,233,000 in funding from the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and The Banks Public Partnership.
The trail was made for both pedestrians and people on bicycles, varying in width from eight feet along the Ohio River to approximately 20 feet along the Mehring Way sidewalk.
The recently completed portion connects on both the east and west sides to existing trail. Once fully completed, the Ohio River Trail will span 23 miles along the Ohio side of the river from Coney Island through downtown to Sayler park.
It also connects to the Little Miami Scenic Trail and will eventually extend north to Lake Erie. Officials hope this will help enhance quality of life, increase mobility and recreational opportunities, and support economic development for citizens throughout Ohio.
