Politics getting ugly in Anderson Township

ANDERSON TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - Politics can be a dirty game at any level, in any city.  Anderson Township is no different.

"I certainly didn't expect it to be this bad," said John Piehowicz, a candidate for trustee.

"I think it's gone to a level that I never expected it to," said Josh Gerth, another trustee candidate.

They are two of five candidates vying for two trustee seats in Anderson Township.

Gerth is a Republican running for the first time.  He's had signs stolen, and other small things like that happen.  But, that's not all.

"My car's been keyed. Someone sent an anonymous letter to my employer linking me to some hate website trying to get me in trouble," said Gerth.

Piehowicz is a Democrat also running for the first time. He too is seeing things getting ugly.

"A gentleman pulled up to me, it was about 6:30 on a Sunday morning, pulled up beside me and said, 'Putting out signs, huh?'  And I said, 'Yep. Putting out signs.'  He said, 'Who's at home watching out for your wife and children,'" Piehowicz told FOX19.

Piehowicz says his family has actually been threatened twice.  He's had signs stolen, and received unnerving voicemails.

But, both candidates don't think it's any other candidate behind what's going on.

"I don't believe the candidates themselves are the one's behind this.  I think there's probably just some mean-spirited people out there," Gerth said.

"I don't think it's any of the other candidates that are behind it.  Is it one of their supporters?  I don't know.  I can't say.  I'd like to think it's not," said Piehowicz.

We reached out to the other three candidates. Two of them said nothing bad has happened to them. The other one says his business has been the target of threats to keep customers from patronizing.

We reached out to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, and they tell us they have not taken any reports on these issues.
