NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) - When David Camm left the Boone County Courthouse Thursday after he was acquitted of the murders of his wife and two children, he didn't leave legal proceedings behind.
Frank and Janice Renn, the parents of Camm's wife, Kim Camm, are pursuing lawsuits to prevent Camm from recovering an estimated $625,000 in life insurance and 401K funds stemming from his family's deaths.
After being cleared Thursday, Camm stands to collect it all.
Attorney Nick Stein is pressing forward with civil lawsuits against Camm pending in Floyd County Circuit Court.
"It's unfortunate we still have another chapter here, but they're not going to walk away from this," Stein said.
Stein said he will also pursue a wrongful death civil case, claiming the standard of proof is different in civil cases. "That's why we're proceeding on with these cases because we think we can win," Stein said.
It's a move Camm's civil attorney said is just a little too soon. "He's been hurting and grieving for 13 years. It's kind of early to talk about civil suits and money in my view," David Mosley said.
"It's not about the money to them. They live a very simple life. They just feel like they need to protect it from David getting it and profiting from this tragedy," Stein said.
There are three cases are pending in Floyd County and another regarding life insurance in U.S. District Federal Court.
