OTTAWAY COUNTY, OH (FOX19) -
An Ohio man from a town just northwest of Columbus had quite the catch in Lake Erie.
Brent McGlone of Marysville set a new Ohio record with his 40.80 pound buffalo, a member of the sucker family. The fish was caught in the Ottaway County portion of Lake Erie.
McGlone was bowfishing on Oct. 11 when he arrowed the buffalo using a fish point tethered with 150 pound test braided line. His record
buffalo is 40.5 inches long and 28.5 inches in girth.
His catch replaces the previous state bowfishing record
buffalo that was arrowed in Hoover Reservoir by Don Paisley on May 14, 1983,
weighing 37 pounds and measuring 40.25 inches long. Ohio's record fish
are determined on the basis of weight only. McGlone also currently holds
the Ohio bowfishing record for suckers other than buffalo.
Ohio's state record fish are certified by the Outdoor
Writers of Ohio State Record Fish Committee with assistance from fisheries
biologists with the Ohio Division of Wildlife.
