CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

A deer dies after jumping through a window, into a downtown parking garage.

It happened just after 2:00 on Wednesday afternoon at the Federal Reserve Parking garage on Main.

According to Cincinnati Police, the animal was spotted running southbound on Main Street. Witnesses say the buck then ran into the window of the parking garage, breaking through the glass.

After crashing through the glass, video obtained by FOX19 shows the young buck hurt but breathing. The deer ran away from the scene to Great American Ball Park.

"We got a report of a deer, an eight-point buck, that struck the Federal Building at Fifth and Main," explains officer Paul Broxterman. "It broke it's right leg and then made his way down here to Joe Nuxhall Way where it laid down in the rose garden. It laid to rest until the SPCA got here, and the SPCA had to put it down."

Police cornered the deer near the Fan Zone and tranquilized it. He died just before 4:00 p.m.

Authorities say that seeing a deer downtown is typically a rare sighting. However, police say this sort of thing may be more common this time of year.

"It is rutting season at this point, so deer are going to be making their way into the urban environments more and more during this time of year," explains Broxterman.

Officers say that the deer's leg was severely broken.
