MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Authorities are releasing the name of the person who died and the person who was injured in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon following the vehicle's flight from a traffic stop.

Alabama State Troopers say 31-year-old Joshua Barnhill, of Montgomery, was killed with the 2000 Lincoln Town Car he was a passenger in collided with a log truck.

The crash happened just moments after the driver, 30-year-old James Causey, also of Montgomery, fled from a traffic stop initiated by a Montgomery police officer.

Causey was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the log truck was not injured.

The crash happened around 4:15 p.m. at the intersection of Old Selma Road and the West Boulevard.

Montgomery Police Chief Kevin Murphy said the department was working in conjunction with the United States Secret Service on a case involving counterfeiting and other felony crimes.

Chief Murphy said the Lincoln the men were in was reported stolen out of Wetumpka. "They [Barnhill and Causey] were wanted felons. They were suspects in several, not one or two, but several felony counts, felony crimes I should say, and when they were pulled over, they fled from law enforcement..."

MPD spokeswoman Martha Earnhardt said Causey's vehicle was not being 'chased' because the crash happened before the officers had enough to get back to his patrol unit to pursue the vehicle.

The Montgomery Police Department requested that Alabama State Troopers investigate the crash.
