Costumed therapy dogs take over UC Medical Center

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Some four legged trick-or-treaters brightened Halloween for patients and staff at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center on Thursday.

Doggie volunteers dressed in their "Howl-o-ween" best as they went door to door for Milk Bone treats. They're from the UC Health Pet Therapy Program and are used in many areas of the hospital.

Organizers say you can immediately see the positive emotional results of the patients when the dogs enter a room, and they make a difference in the world of modern medicine.

Each canine has been tested and earned the Canine Good Citizen title, meaning they can walkin in a crowd and are friendly to humans and other dogs. They've also passed tests regarding walking around medical equipment and wheel chairs at the hospital.

They work on all floors, including the Barrett Cancer Center, and even have their own picture ID badge!
