LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The Kentucky Derby Festival is announcing the addition of a cycling event in 2014.

Registration for the ‘Tour de Lou' begins Friday morning. KDF is partnering with the Louisville Bicycle Club to produce the event on Saturday, April 27. The open course starts and finishes at Waterfront Park.

The course includes a scenic Olmstead Park tour showcasing Shawnee, Chickasaw, Wayside, Iroquois and Cherokee parks.

The festival's inaugural bike event is for all ages and all levels of experience with three separate distances based on levels:

  • 4 miles- beginner/family ride
  • 20 miles- beginner/new to cycling
  • 35 miles- moderate/experienced
