Cincinnati State to host culinary competition at Horseshoe

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Cooking competitions involving culinary students under the tutelage of some of the region's best-known chefs will be taking place at the Horseshoe Casino tonight.

The "Recipe for Success" event will raise scholarship funds to help support the Hospitality Academy of Cincinnati.

Guests can enjoy interactive tasting stations featuring great foods and fine wines.

The Hospitality Academy is a partnership between the Freestore Foodbank and Cincinnati State.

Launched in 2012, the academy helps urban, disadvantaged students improve job-readiness skills, prepare for careers in the culinary industry or enroll in an academic pathway.

"Recipe for Success" will feature:

  • A cooking competition with culinary students and local chefs using a mystery basket of ingredients. Local chefs will coach/mentor student chefs.
  • Culinary demonstrations with chocolate, sugar/dessert and ice carving
  • Interactive tasting stations from 20 of the area's finest restaurants
  • Wine & spirits

The program will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Main Ballroom at Horseshoe Cincinnati with a welcome from emcees Marilyn Harris, a radio personality and author, and Chef Robert LaFond with the JTM Food Group.

The first round of the cooking competition will begin at 5:45, with winners announced at 6:50 p.m. The final round will begin at 7 p.m. Judging for the final round will begin at 8 p.m. An awards program will commence at 8:15 p.m.
