The United States will observe Veterans Day on Monday, November 11, 2013. Here are some of the events around the WSFA 12 News viewing area on that day to honor our men and women in uniform.

ANDALUSIA

The Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. and the ceremony will be held at the Veterans Memorial Park located directly behind City Hall immediately following the parade. There will be a reception with light refreshments after the ceremony in the second floor lobby area of City Hall.

AUBURN

The city of Auburn will hold a Veterans Day ceremony, including a wreath laying along with musical performances. A reception will be held at the Auburn Chamber of Commerce at 714 East Glenn Avenue. [More information]

MONTGOMERY

The city's parade starts at 11 a.m. and will go from the Capitol steps, taking a right onto Perry Street and ending at Montgomery City Hall.

The City will hold a Veterans Day Concert at the Montgomery City Auditorium.

OPELIKA

The city of Opelika and the Elks Lodge will hold several events for veterans. A breakfast will take place at 8 a.m. at Elks Club 1944 Opelika Road in Auburn. Special Services will be held at 10 a.m.at Veterans Memorial Monument  at Opelika City Hall.

PRATTVILLE

Mayor Bill Gillespie, Jr. has declared November 10th-16th to be Military Appreciation Week in Prattville.

The city will join the American Legion Post 122, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1349, in sponsoring a wreath-laying ceremony at the Autauga County Courthouse at 11 a.m. to officially mark Veterans Day.

On Thursday, November 14th, elected and military officials within the River Region will hold a joint proclamation-signing event honoring our military during this special week. That event will be held at the Wright Flyer Monument, in Montgomery, at 9 a.m.

The Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce and its Military Committee are supporting a variety of events and area merchants are offering specials and discounts. A list of events and specific merchant discounts are available on their website, www.prattvillechamber.com.

The City of Prattville will hang a banner in front of City Hall in honor of this event and encourages all residents of Prattville to join in thanking our military for their service and contribution in our lives and community.

TROY

Each Veteran's Day, the Colley Senior Complex honors our brave men and women of the armed forces by hosting a Veteran's Day breakfast. More than 200 veterans from all branches of the military attend this event. Immediately following the breakfast, the City of Troy and the American Legion Post 70 hosts the Veteran's Day Celebration at Bicentennial Park.

TUSKEGEE

The City of Tuskegee and Macon County will host their first Annual Veterans Day Parade and Program to follow on the Square. All persons interested in participating please contact the Mayor's Office. The parade will start at 10:00 in downtown Tuskegee, and will culminate on the City Square with the program.
