Zoo gets in the holiday spirit with 30-foot rhino

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - It's that time of year again! The Cincinnati Zoo is preparing for the holiday season.

A 30-foot-tall rhino nutcracker was installed on Wednesday, standing guard over the grounds of the Cincinnati Zoo. The giant nutcracker has been one of the most iconic displays at the zoo's PNC Festival of Lights over the last couple of years.

This holiday season, the zoo will feature two giant nutcrackers, a rhinoceros and a lion.  Assembling these massive statues was no easy task!

HGC Construction used a crane and a lift bucket to put together the nutcracker's five wooden parts: 1 base, 2 legs, 1 body and a head.

This year's Festival of Lights will run from November 23 through January 4. For more information on this year's PNC Festival of Lights, click here.
