MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Benjamin Franklin once famously said, "A lie can make it half way around the world before the truth has a chance to put its boots on." He couldn't have been more correct.

A photo making its way around online has been passed around more times than the $100 note with Franklin's face on the front.

Viewers have emailed asking if its true that there is a mountain lion on the loose in Wilcox County because they've seen the photo online.

The photo has been shared on social media sites alleging the picture was snapped after the animal stole bait from a deer hunter's stand.

WSFA 12 News asked the Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries if the photo was real and they did some investigating. They're determination? It's a panther in the photo and it isn't in Wilcox County or Alabama.

Mark Sasser, a certified wildlife biologist and the nongame wildlife coordinator for the Ala. Div. of Wildlife & Freshwater Fisheries, said he and his staff determined the photo came from the South Florida Water Management District and was taken in November 2010.
